Get over the Lexus Slide, this hoverboard actually flies

December 27 12:38 2015

There has been a sudden uptick in hoverboard related announcements among several companies, the ARCA Space Corporation and Lexus included, as it appears that these announcements draw lots of fanfare among hopeful futurists. The Long Endurance version of ArcaBoard has a lifting capacity of 80kg but can hover for 6 minutes.

The hoverboard by Arca Space is for sale at $19,900, as estimated by the Northern Californian.

While juicing up, the ArcaBorad is a battery that can last for six minutes for the lightweight version, while the one designed for heavier riders last for 3 minutes. That’s a bit of hyperbole, of course – the battery dies after six minutes, so it’s more like freedom in brief bursts.

As for the technical details, the company boasts that its hoverboard comes with 36 high power electric ducted fans that can deliver 272 horsepower and a maximum thrust of 430 pounds, “enough to propel you across land, water, snow or ice”. The $19,900 ArcaBoard also has a built-in stabilizer which insures that you won’t be tossed of in an embarrassing fashion as you attempt to impress your friends.

The website claims that orders will begin on April 15, 2016. For the first time, every person will be able to fly anytime, anywhere.

Meet ArcaSpace’s new ArcaBoard, the new closest thing we’ve seen in terms of a street ready hoverboard that works on any surface. ARCA is calling the ArcaBoard a “revolutionary breakthrough for transportation”.

Popescu added, “For its size, the ArcaBoard is probably the most powerful personal vehicle ever created in history”. We took our knowledge and applied it to everyone’s dreams.

ArcaBoard is equipped with onboard sensors that maintain it 30 cm above ground and limit its speed to 20 km/h. The ArcaDock reduces charging times down to a mere 35 minutes.

For now, ArcaBoard is being launched as a recreational vehicle, but it is considered that it may other applications as well in the future. The technology used in the board has limitless options.

In a statement provided to TheVerge, ArcaSpace is primarily a private space company, and one of the original 26 teams that competed in the Ansari X Prize competition in 2004.

ARCA Space Corporation, which is now based out of New Mexico, exists to develop rocket systems and commercial drones. For instance, a hoverboard purchased at Crabtree Valley Mall caught fire while charging inside the home of the Cary family, as reported by WRAL. It is not known if it has actually sold anything, but the marketing campaign for ArcaBoard sounds promising.

You won’t believe what this new ARCA hoverboard can do — or what it costs
