Zoolander-2 breaks record for most watched comedy trailer

USA Today reported that since the official “Zoolander 2” trailer debuted last Wednesday, it has been viewed over 52.2 million times already. In the sequel, Ben Stiller returns as the duck-faced, dim-witted male model Derek Zoolander, along with Owen Wilson as his equally-dunce (but ridiculously good-looking) rival Hansel McDonald. Luckily, Zoolander fans will only have had to wait 15 years: Zoolander 2 will be released in theaters on February 12, 2016. The trailer introduces Kristen Wiig as the new villain, who has teamed up with Will Ferrell’s Mugatu from the original cult classic comedy. The two-and-a-half minute clip was released on November 18th and even including a glimpse of Justin Bieber, who will cameo in the film.

They like Zoolander, they really like Zoolander. Cast as Interpol agent Valentina, she hires Zoolander and Hansel to investigate a death plot against the world’s most lovely people, including pop star Justin Bieber.

Demi Lovato, Usher and Miley Cyrus were also revealed to have been killed by the mysterious villain. Cumberbatch plays an androgynous model named Ali in the film, but some LGBT activists have labelled the portrayal “a “cartoonish mockery” of transgender, androgyne and non-binary individuals”.

Led by a certain Sarah Rose, an online petition was created to boycott “Zoolander 2” specifically because of Benedict Cumberbatch’s role.

“This is the modern equivalent of using blackface to represent a minority”.
