Xiaomi brings back the sliding phone

October 28 17:55 2018

The Mi Mix 3 comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, instead of an in-display scanner that was suggested by the rumour mill earlier.

The Chinese company attempted to limit the bezels on the screen on its two older Mi Mix smartphones, but the result was rather poor, as the front camera placed below the screen was forcing users to hold the device upside-down while taking a selfie. The screen-to-body ratio is 93.4%. Here are all the details regarding the live stream of the launch event, as well as the expected specifications of Mi Mix 3. On paper, this magnetic sliding mechanism will last forever if the phone is not dropped.

All models will be available on November 1, with the 6GB and 8GB models coming in Onyx Black, Jade Green and Sapphire Blue colour options. However, unlike the Oppo Find X’s automatic slider, you’ll have to slide the phone down to reveal the front cameras. The rear camera consists of 12MP +12MP Sony IMX 363 sensors. The telephoto lens features a Samsung S5K3M3+ sensor. The flagship device flaunts a slider mechanism for the selfie camera. Xiaomi has added a host of features and AI-capabilities for enhancing the quality of images to produce better results in low light conditions. The company is also flaunting its DxOMark rating, with an overall score of 103, a photo score of 108 and a video score of 93.

Xiaomi’s global VP and India MD, Manu Kumar Jain, quickly responded to a tweet with the so-called Mi Mix 3 invite poster tagging it under “#FakeNews” and “#NotTrue”. Under the hood, the smartphone will feature the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 paired with 10GB of RAM. There 6/8 or even 10GB RAM with 128/256GB internal storage. We’re not sure about the local price of Xiaomi’s new Mi Max 3 but we reckon it’s got the first two sewn up. Those that opt for this edition will also receive a 10W wireless Qi charger and a collectible statue in fancy packaging. The speaker and the USB port C is present at the bottom of the phone. The 5G variant of Mi Mix 3 will be available across Europe in Q1 2019. There also are 6GB and 8GB RAM models on offer. After some advancements and tweaks done to the original design, Xiaomi has now unveiled the new Mi MIX 3 at the Forbidden City. The variant is already going for sale in Amazon.in while the 4GB / 64 GB variant is being sold for a discounted price of Rs. 14,999. Currently, there is no announcement of any release outside of the Chinese market.
