LG G7 ThinQ Coming To Sprint & US Cellular On June 1

May 03 16:07 2018

After a cancellation and an overhaul right from the drawing board itself, the LG G7, or the LG G7 ThinQ, as the company calls it, has seen the light of the day as LG unveiled the device at an event in NY today, with a Korean launch in Seoul tomorrow. The bottom bezel is apparently nearly 50 per cent slimmer than on the LG G6.

The fingerprint sensor placed on the back of the smartphone no longer doubled up as a power button.

The front of of the Google Pixel 2 XL is nearly all screen like many other flagships, but it has small bezels at the top and bottom housing stereo speakers. Users can also hold down the button to start talking to the Google Assistant.

The phone has a 6.1-inch LCD display with resolution of 3120 x 1440 pixels. That works out to a 19.5:9 ratio, which is taller than phones like the Galaxy S9 or Pixel 2 XL. Perhaps the notable features of the display is that offers a “Super Bright” mode which can increase the brightness up to 1,000 nits. You can fully expand the display for slim bezels, you can change the status bar color to personalize your phone, or you can hide the notch by turning the status bar black. The announcement was made during an event held in NY.

LG G7 ThinQ has glass back with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. Under the hood, the LG G7 ThinQ is powered by a Snapdragon 845 paired with 6GB of RAM. Connectivity options provided in the device include Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0 BLE, USB Type-C 2.0 (3.1 compatible), NFC, FM Radio, and Global Positioning System. The LG G7 ThinQ is also the first smartphone to offer DTS:X to deliver virtual 3D sound, up to 7.1 channel audio with earphones, and LG has again included a Hi-Fi Quad DAC and FM radio for audiophiles. The G7 ThinQ comes with 64GB storage and 4GB LPDDR4 RAM. LG skips on the 3.5 mm headphone jack here. While the LG G7 ThinQ comes with support for 30 custom commands for the Google Assistant, the company says that they have designed the LG G7 ThinQ keeping three things in mind i.e. LG has been keen to tout its Super Far-Field Voice Recognition feature that apparently help the G7 ThinQ pick up what you’re saying from up to five meters away. There is an 8-megapixel front-facing camera too. The feature, which is based on artificial intelligence (AI) based algorithms, offers a total of 19 shooting models that are created to enhance the memories captured from the dual rear camera setup. On the front, the devices boast an 8MP wide-angle f/1.9 sensor. For selfies, there’s an 8-megapixel wide-angle lens up front.

Also of note is that the LG G7 ThinQ does have a display notch. At least the G7 has a SDcard slot for additional storage if you need it. Renders and specifications of the smartphone have been leaked earlier, and now new details have emerged just hours before the launch, citing an official press release from LG that was obtained early.

LG is also utilizing Google Assistant to add some more smarts to its flagship. This is identical to the V30S ThinQ that LG announced at MWC, and there’s no hardware aspect like with Huawei’s camera AI.
