US President Trump tosses paper towels into Puerto Rico crowd

The death toll in Puerto Rico now stands at 34. You know, they owe a lot of money to your friends on Wall Street.

The move comes after a series of talks between the USA and Mexico. Puerto Rico must first deal with hurricane clean-up and then try to plug a widening fiscal hole. “That’s your job as President”.

The price of Puerto Rico’s bonds, already down in the wake of Hurricane Maria, fell another 31 percent. “There are people who do everything for a calculative political motive”.

Colbert showed footage of Trump interacting with hurricane victims, in which the president told one couple to “have a good time“.

In addition to his briefing, Trump also toured a neighborhood where residents are rebuilding damaged homes.

“The US has more than enough resources to mobilize an emergency response but has failed to do so in a swift and robust manner”.

“There’s a lot of love in this room, a lot of love”, Trump said.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Thursday that Puerto Rico will “have to go through that process” set up during the Obama administration “to have a lasting recovery and growth”. A game? The first reaction that I had: “why is he throwing things to Puerto Ricans like we’re animals?” said Frances Alvarado, 55, a Puerto Rican in North Carolina whose husband has spent three decades in the navy.

Some 12,000 civilian federal workers and a much smaller number of United States military personnel were in Puerto Rico to deliver aid and assist with relief efforts, though many criticised Washington for its delayed response to the devastation. But even if it doesn’t make debt payments, Puerto Rico will not be able to pay out salaries or pensions to essential government workers and provide basic services without federal aid.

Some analysts found Trump less than empathetic.

The world of Birmingham couple Maria and Francisco “Paco” Robert was set spinning, as well, following the hurricane that ravaged Puerto Rico.

As of Friday, power has only been restored for 10.7 percent of the island and 55.5 percent of people have drinking water, according to status.PR, a Spanish-language website maintained by the governor’s office. To borrow a favorite descriptor from the president’s incessant tweeting, that’s sad. He said he has been inundated with enquiries since the hurricane hit.

Before landing on the island, Mr Trump graded his administration’s response to Hurricane Maria as an “A plus”.

In any event, bringing the USA into the fray would make a hard case even more complicated, bankruptcy experts say.

TRUMP: “Who needs a flashlight?”.

The island is still grappling with the damage caused by the storm.

On the flight back to Washington, Trump told reporters he’d heard no criticism while on the ground.

Some Puerto Rican residents in Atlanta secured a cargo plane to fly to the island with needed supplies.

Outside of the bankruptcy case, Trump can’t do much to help Puerto Rico eliminate its debt, said Richard Cooper, a restructuring lawyer with Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, which until earlier this year had been advising Puerto Rico on its debt troubles.

Trump this weekend accused Cruz of “poor leadership” over Twitter and said she was taking instructions from Democrats that she “be nasty Trump”.

The case is In re Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, 17-03283, U.S. District Court, District of Puerto Rico (San Juan). Last Friday, the mayor appeared on television in a black shirt with white letters that read, “HELP US, WE ARE DYING“. “I am mad as hell because my people’s lives are at stake”.
