‘Game of Thrones’: Who Will Survive the Final Season?

April 22 05:59 2019

The theme of Game of Thrones season 8 episode endings is awkward situations.

Jon Snow didn’t hold back when he told Daenerys Targaryen about his true parentage during Sunday’s episode of “Game of Thrones“, titled “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms“.

In one of the entire show’s sweeter moments, Jamie Lannister – the ol’ Kingslayer himself – does right by the noble Lady Brienne and anoints her Sir Brienne of Tarth. But frankly, if this is the calm, then the storm is going to destroy us all.

However, the show-runners let Maisie decide the level of nudity she would be comfortable with for the scene.

We’ve been curious for months on end now to see precisely what Daenerys’ reaction was going to be to this news. She also said she had to die “in this unusual country”. Yet, we can’t know for sure what will happened to her, and if she is about to have some big impact on things that are about to happen. And then he actually knights Brienne, who knows that women can’t ordinarily be honored that way, in front of a roomful of witnesses, including Davos (Liam Cunningham) and Brienne’s would-be suitor, Tormund Nightbane (Kristofer Hivju).

We will find out whether or not that plan works next week, because the final shot of the Night King and his army outside Winterfell means that the end is now quite literally on the horizon. Daenerys told him she could never reconcile the good stories she’d been told about her brother with the man who would kidnap and rape Lyanna Stark, at which point Jon had to fess up about the secrets he’d just learned. Yeah, it is emotional, but each time we celebrate it, I feel a little bit of weight lifted and I get to enjoy what we did. We wait with baited breath as the Starks and Lannisters circle each other, nipping at each others’ heels until they run within striking distance. Nevertheless, they could turn out to be lucky and go on to live in a peaceful world anyway.

In another key scene late in the episode, the cliffhanger of the last episode comes to a head. As Winterfell gears up for war, Ser Jorah receives an unexpected gift from Samwell Tarly. Speaking of hearts, we are simply loving the teamwork between everyone! But mostly, it’s great because he doesn’t seem to get that he’s the third wheel in a tortured love story between Brienne and Jaime.

As she hones her arrow skills, Gendry finally shows up her custom-made Dragon Glass spear that Arya hopes to use to kill the Night King. That moment adds interesting fodder to the theory that Sam will be the person to finish Archmaester Ebrose’s book “A Chronicle of the Wars Following the Death of King Robert I”, which will inevitably be called “A Song of Ice and Fire” after Jon, Daenerys, the Night King, and those fire-breathing dragons.
